LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a Warriors claimed third place in the JN Automotive/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships, Saturday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
Kapa‘a (10-4-1), a day after falling 2-0 to No. 3 Honoka‘a in the semifinals, grabbed a 2-0 victory of its own over the Seabury Hall Spartans (7-2-6).
Matt Domingcil scored the first goal of the match for the Warriors in the 24th minute of play.
That would prove to be the only score needed as Kapa‘a put the defensive clamps on the Seabury attack, but Kanoa Nartatez gave his team some cushion with a goal in the 32nd minute.
Kapa‘a’s Hayden Hislop was the lone Warrior named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the Div. II championship match, Mid-Pac used a flurry of scoring to run away with a 4-0 win over Honoka‘a.
Keegan Choy, Brendan Wesley-Smith and Taylor Chong scored four goals between the 34th and 46th minutes to capture the state title. Choy had the first two scores.
In Div. I, Punahou eked out the title with a 1-0 victory over Iolani. Sean Hungerford had the championship-winning score in the 39th minute.
