LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i High Schools, each having reached the state semifinals of the HHSAA girls soccer championship tournament, dominated the selections for the 2010 All-Star Team named by the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation on Wednesday.
Girls Player of the Year was Kapa‘a junior forward Dakota Barnett.
Kapa‘a head coach Colby Ayonon was awarded the Coach of the Year honor after leading the Lady Warriors to a perfect 8-0-0 KIF season and a No. 2 seed in the Div. II state tournament.
The rest of the team consists of seven Kapa‘a and four Kaua‘i players.
Joining Barnett at forward are Kapa‘a sophomore Lily Fredericksen and Kaua‘i sophomore Isabelle “Jazzy” Curtis.
At midfield, Kapa‘a senior Seri Niimu-Burch and Kaua‘i juniors Teal Basquez and Malia Kagawa made the cut.
Kapa‘a seniors Chauncie Garcia and Larissa Crain, and junior Takara Kunioka made the defensive unit, along with Kaua‘i junior Alexa Tamashiro.
Kapa‘a sophomore Raquelle Matayoshi was chosen as goalie and Kapa‘a junior Shea Gugai was named utility player.
The boys team was more of a mixed bag with all four teams represented.
Kapa‘a senior forward Kaisen Carrillo was chosen as the conference Player of the Year.
Sean Magoun, head coach of Island, was named Coach of the Year after a much-improved season.
Island’s Michael Chamberlain and Waimea’s Torrey Santiago join Carrillo at the forward spot.
Kaua‘i senior Aaron Pigott, Waimea junior Joshua Quinlan and Kapa‘a junior Kanoa Nartatez make up the midfield trio.
On defense, Kapa‘a junior Hunter Hudson, Island senior Kamailei Pihana, Waimea senior Jordan Kitabayashi and Kaua‘i junior Mason Vegas create the All-Star back line.
Waimea junior goalie Beau Acoba manned the net well enough to be chosen as the conference’s top keeper.
