Hyatt spa welcomes new director
Anara Spa at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort welcomes its new director, Joe Herman, to lead the team.
Herman joins the spa from a three-year tenure at Accista Spa at the Hyatt Regency Monterey, Calif.
Anara Spa was recently honored by Conde Nast Traveler readers as one of the top resort spas and by Spa magazine readers as one of the top five spas in Hawai‘i.
Herman began his career with Hyatt working in a variety of departments in the rooms division before shifting to the spa industry.
His debut in 2003 was to head the then newly opened spa at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort in New Mexico. In 2008, he moved west to open the new spa at Hyatt Regency Monterey where his extensive hospitality experience enabled him to create an exceptional guest experience while tailoring the spa treatments to the local environs.
Herman felt drawn to join Anara’s world class team of spa professionals, “I feel very fortunate to be able to support them and learn from them,” Herman said.
Anara Spa’s incorporation of traditional healing practices and its beautiful setting provided additional enticement.
“The innate blending of nature and its healing aspects into Anara’s philosophy makes it a standout in the industry. The casual outdoor atmosphere and its strong sense of place make for a comforting environment. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the transformation that occurs in people when they are able to let go of external influences and simply enjoy the space we have created for them,” Herman said.
Herman looks forward to island life, learning more about the land and its culture while hiking and enjoying the outdoors with his wife and 5-year-old son. In addition, he looks forward to teaching his son to snorkel, dive, kayak and surf.
