I pretended I was a tourist for a day. What would I want to eat here on Kaua‘i? “Fish,” I answered. And where could I find it? Well I knew I wanted to eat something fresh and gourmet-like. So I headed down the tunnel of trees and followed my flow to Keoki’s Paradise in Po‘ipu. Southside hospitality has got me saying “Now I know why I haven’t left Kaua‘i yet.” Their ono menu choices have my mouth all watered up again, just thinking about my lunch date there the other day with my sister and our friend. For starters, we ordered virgin lava flows and I got my fish on by ordering fresh Ahi sashimi as our pupu. Then I ordered the house special: a beautiful plate of chicken covered with crusted coconut flakes cooked to perfection over a base of tasty linguine. My sister ordered a chicken stir-fry that tasted like it had teriyaki sauce smothered all over it.
Of course, I wouldn’t be doing my thing if I didn’t order another lava flow to complement the amazing coconut flavors I was getting from my chicken dish. My son enjoyed a plate of macaroni and cheese, a tried-and-true kid pleaser. The service was fast and helpful, I needed a minute longer to decide what to order because themenu has so many choices. I normally know what I want, but I had to make sure I was getting the Keoki’s Paradise experience. The vibe was great too; a mixture of tourists and locals filled the restaurant during the lunch hour. The kids were distracted with the crayons and coloring paper menu they give them in the beginning. I couldn’t believe I had finally made it there for lunch. I usually go there for dinner and order their Texas-style prime rib, but lunch there was fulfilling too.
After you eat, sometimes you want dessert, right? Well, it doesn’t matter if it’s lunch or dinner over there. If there is one dessert Keoki’s is known for that’s an ultimate must, it’s the hula pie.” Just one big slice can feed up to three people with some to spare. The Oreo cookie bottom with vanilla ice cream in the middle and whipped cream topping, macadamia nuts, and drizzled chocolate syrup will have you satisfied and dreaming for more. I must say, it’s a must-have.
So where is this hidden but well-known treasure? It is next to the Po‘ipu Shopping Village in Po‘ipu on the South Shore of Kaua‘i, where the beach, hotels, and great food are everywhere.
