The directors of the Sunset/Sunrise Duplicate Bridge Club awarded the inaugural Richard T. Shen Memorial Trophy on April 9 in Princeville, a news release states.
The trophy was commissioned and donated to the club by Dr. Dileep Bal, a very close friend of Richard, who passed away last year.
The purpose of the award is to recognize either a single player or partnership which exhibits courtesy and respect at the table, while demonstrating significant improvement in play in club duplicate game masterpoint scoring, the release states.
Shen was not only a Life Master Player, but played the game with courtesy, graciousness, and often instructed other players to improve their game, the release states.
The 2010 award was presented to Pat Berg and Susan Worth and were unanimous selections by all the club-sanctioned directors. The club was honored with the presence of Aida Shen, Richard’s wife.
