KAUMAKANI – A Waimea man was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with a robbery in March at the Kaumakani Thrifty Mart, a county press release stated.
Kaua‘i Police Department arrested Timothy Richardson, 23, for first-degree robbery. Richardson is being held in police cellblock in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Richardson allegedly entered the store in the afternoon on March 8 wearing dark clothing and sunglasses, according to the release. After walking around the store and selecting an item, Richardson approached the checkout counter, pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money.
The cashier retreated and Richardson fled. No items or money were reported missing, KPD said in the release.
A county spokeswoman said KPD arrested Richardson following interviews and investigative leads, but KPD could not release any other details.
KPD suggests the following crime prevention tips:
— Make daily cash deposits and keep a minimum amount of cash on-hand.
— Install interior and/or exterior video surveillance systems.
— Install security lighting and motion sensors.
— Hire security guards to help deter illegal activity.
— Be aware of anyone who might be “casing” your business for a future break-in.
— Form alliances with neighbors to keep an eye out for each other, such as a Neighborhood Watch Program.
— Report any suspicious activity to KPD at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
