PUHI — Apple juice combined with Hannah Huang zucchini resulted in “Zapple,” a new offering at The Right Slice during the Kaua‘i Community Market Saturday.
Sandy Poehnelt, owner of and baker at The Right Slice, said she simply got some zucchini from Huang at one of the community markets and combined it with apple juice.
The result was unveiled at the special community market, which added an additional 18 to 24 crafters and Made on Kaua‘i vendors to satisfy Mother’s Day shoppers.
KQNG’s Ron Wiley was broadcasting from the special Mother’s Day gathering and said the Zapple was good, giving it rave reviews on the air.
A visitor who recently became addicted to The Right Slice’s offerings said Zapple was “incredible” and couldn’t wait until Wednesday when he planned to get more at the Kukui‘ula Culinary Market.
Bill Spitz of the county’s Office of Economic Development, shopping for Rodney Haraguchi’s beef stew, said he was glad to see more vendors offering local products for sale at the community markets.
Aletha Thomas of Monkeypod Jam was busy visiting vendors following last week’s Kukui‘ula Culinary Market, picking up surplus banana and papaya from vendors.
“This will all be an new product for the Saturday market,” she said.
The Right Slice is at the Monday Market at Kukui Grove, the Tuesday Coconut Marketplace market, the Kukui‘ula Culinary Market and Friday night in front of Talk Story Bookstore in Hanapepe.
Huang is at almost all of the county’s sunshine markets, in addition to the Kaua‘i Community Market and the Monday Market at Kukui Grove, where she sells Mola‘a Bay Coffee.
