The Sea Warriors used a walk-off sacrifice fly in Game 1 on April 30 to clinch second place in the PacWest Conference with a 12-5 win over Academy of Art for the Commissioner’s Cup for the second straight year.
HPU closes the season with an overall record of 26-21, 20-12 in the PacWest.
A day after his six-RBI performance, Rice-Kashima doubled home two runs in the third inning of Game 1 to help erase a 6-0 deficit in the opener of a May 1 doubleheader against Academy of the Art.
He finished the day with a double, a single, two RBIs and a run scored.
Rice-Kashima closed his freshman year with 25 starts, piled up 27 hits in 87 at-bats for a .310 average, scattered eight doubles, a triple and scored 14 times with 13 runs driven in.
He finishes the year with a .425 slugging percentage and a .981 fielding percentage.
Art Rice, Lanan’s dad, said the Sea Warrior freshman has been invited to play for the Hawai‘i Island Movers during the summer and will spend a month in Japan before playing in a tournament at the Les Murakami Stadium in August against various teams from Japan.
