LIHU‘E — Nicole Danielle Gonsalves appeared before 5th Circuit Court Judge Randal Valenciano Thursday morning and was arraigned on a seven-count indictment, according to First Deputy County Prosecutor Jake Delaplane.
The 25-year-old Lawa‘i woman pleaded not guilty to charges that could land her in jail for life with the possibility of parole. A jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 17.
Police arrested Gonsalves after an altercation with her boyfriend, Robert Ballard, 30, of Lawa‘i, and another woman in the early hours of June 14.
Ballard was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with a stab wound on his left leg.
Gonsalves is being charged with second-degree attempt murder, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree burglary, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and unauthorized control of a vehicle.
A conviction of second-degree attempted murder could mean jail for life with the possibility of parole.
Defense Attorney Rosa Flores was court-appointed to represent Gonsalves, who remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail.
