Electricians Union re-elects Damien Kim
Electricians Union members have re-elected Damien Kim to serve as business manager and financial secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1186, a press release announced Monday.
Kim was re-elected on June 18 to a new three-year term by greater than a three-to-one margin and won nearly 80 percent of the votes.
“I am deeply humbled by the vote of confidence and overwhelming support of our membership,” said Kim. “I’m thankful our members did their homework and voted to keep building on the solid foundation we’ve laid for the future, as we work together with Governor Abercrombie on his $2.9 billion construction budget starting July 1.”
All the candidates endorsed on Kim’s slate won their seats in the election. Among the officers re-elected on Kim’s team were Peter Akamu for president, Tracy Hayashi for vice president, Dennis Kaloi for recording secretary and Michael Tanaka for treasurer.
Kim has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry as a licensed electrician, is a member of the Honolulu Authority on Rapid Transportation and vice president of the Hawai‘i Building and Construction Trades Council, the Hawai‘i AFL-CIO and Aloha United Way.
IBEW Local 1186 and its 3,200 members and 120 signatory companies serve Hawai‘i’s residential, business and government communities — including construction, telecommunications, Oceanic Cable, public utility and federal sector military work. IBEW Local 1186 companies are responsible for over 75 percent of all electrical work performed in Hawai‘i.
