LIHU‘E — Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon at the Lihu‘e Civic Center after police received numerous complaints about suspicious activities at the facility, states a release from the Kaua‘i Police Department.
David Mainaaupo Sr., 63, of Waimea was arrested for an outstanding bench warrant, and is being held in police cellblock in lieu of $1,850 bail.
Kapa‘a resident Vasken Tchapraste, 62, was arrested for one count of third degree promotion of a detrimental drug, and was released pending a court appearance.
Small amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also seized during the arrest.
“We received numerous complaints over the past few weeks of suspicious and possibly illegal activities at the Lihu‘e Civic Center by individuals who work and visit there,” said Capt. Michael Contrades. “This is a high-traffic area for the public and people were feeling unsafe, especially in the parking lot fronting the Lihu‘e Big Save.”
