Pierce Murphy will be heading to the state finals of the Junior Lifeguard program, hoping to help Kaua‘i win its eighth consecutive title on the Big Island.
Juan Lorenzo said this is the weekend for one last look at some of our Kaua‘i athletes before they head off to college.
Chas Okamoto, No. 1 Boys Singles tennis player in the state, was teamed up with Herb Noe for the finals of the Koloa Plantation Days Summer Challenge, a charity doubles event benefiting the Kaua‘i United Way, Sunday. Chas is heading to the University of Hawai‘i as a Regent Scholar and will be playing on the tennis team, his mom Nellie said.
Deborah Gia, longtime tennis player, even made an appearance at the event and as luck would have it, got to see Carolyn Lum and Pomai Cano in action on the courts as well.
And with the Kalapaki Joe’s party going on, Herb stopped to check out the mechanical bull.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. made his appearance at the Plantation Days Rodeo along with Nalani Brun and Sarah Blane (Ross Farias had a first and third on the day) and even Kona-Kai Wilson joined them on stage.
