Bernice Saiki
Bernice M. Saiki of Kapa‘a died July 18, 2011, at age 87. Born Aug. 20, 1923, in Kapa‘a, she retired as an elementary school teacher from Wilcox Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Katsumi Saiki.
She is survived by her son, Roy, and sisters, Alice Victorino and Jane Kashiwabara.
Private services were held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Saiki family with arrangements.
Stephanie Ha’aino
Stephanie Ha’aino of Honolulu died Jan. 5, 2005, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at age 57. She was born on O‘ahu.
She is survived by her son, Keola Ha‘aino; brothers, Edward Kaiwi and Hank Kaiwi; and one grandson.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kapa‘a, 2nd ward on Kaua‘i. Scattering of her ashes will follow at Bertlemann Hill in Pila‘a, Kaua‘i.
Arrangements are made by Moanalua Mortuary.
Benjamin Taroc
Benjamin “Ben” Taroc of Mililani, O‘ahu, formerly of Koloa, died July 18, 2011, at Hawai‘i Medical Center West in O‘ahu at age 65. Born July 29, 1945, he graduated from Kaua‘i High School and University of Hawai‘i Manoa.
He was a Marine Corp Recruiter, worked at Aloha Airlines, Bank of Hawai‘i, EF Hutton and Advertiser and was very active in AYSO as a coach of referee.
He is survived by daughters, Tammy AS Taroc; Rheva (Eric) Lewis; Shannon CM (Darren) Ezawa all of O‘ahu, and Shayna (Joseph Clark) Taroc of Michigan; sisters, Betty Casabar, Katherine (Rudy) Samiano, Thelma (Stanley) Tamagawa; grandchildren, Maiya and Bobby Ezawa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 8, at Mililani Memorial Park Makai Chapel. Viewing will be at 5:30 p.m. and services will follow at 6 p.m. Private burial services will be held at a later date at Punchbowl Cemetery.
Mililani Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
April Rellin
April Janice Rellin of College Park, Md., died July 13, 2009, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the District of Columbia at age 68. Born in Kilauea on April 1, 1941, she was retired from the Army.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Crescencia Lopez; sister, Hazel Rellin; brother, Ricky Rellin; and step-brother, Alan Lopez.
She is survived by her father, Saturnino Roy (Sybil) Rellin; step-fathers, Frederico Lopez and Domingo Laranio; sisters, Martha (Dennis) Kaminiski, Dolores (Bill) Barry, Annie Rellin, Sheila (Ralph) Schmarje, Carmela Cabacungan, Novella (Lawrence) Natividad, Leona (Edward) Soto, Loren Sfirm; step-sister, Kathlyn Christian; brothers, Timothy Laranio, Wayne (Lelani) Laranio, Sonny Rellin, Rodney Rellin; step-brothers, Domi Loranio, Garrick Lopez, Ronald (Jeanette) Lopez, Joe (Lihue) Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private scattering of ashes will be this September.
