LIHU‘E — Two roadwork projects have begun on the North Shore, both requiring the periodic closure of one lane of Kuhio Highway, a news release states.
Road paving work began Aug. 1 from Hanalei to Ke‘e Beach, primarily from the Lumaha‘i area up to the wet and dry caves in Ha‘ena. Work will include pavement repairs, cold planing, asphalt concrete paving, drainage improvements, pavement striping and markings and hydromulch seeding. The completion date is Sept. 23.
Another project involves repairing the crumbling retaining walls alongside Kuhio Highway beginning at milepost 5 in the Lumaha‘i vicinity. The work also involves installing new guardrails for the highway shoulder along a quarter-mile span. This project is anticipated to be completed in December.
Working hours for both projects will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except holidays. Motorists are asked to watch for flagmen who will be directing traffic to when one lane is closed.
