Dr. Chuck Blay, a Kaua‘i-based geologist, researcher, educator and author, will speak on the “Character and Origin of Hawai‘i’s Coralgal Reefs and Associated Sandy Beaches,” Thursday, at the Hanapepe Public Library.
The public is invited to the free Hawaiian Marine Environment series from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Hawai‘i’s nearshore marine reefs are most commonly referred to as “coral” reefs, but a significant portion of its content is coralline algae, Blay said in a release from the Hanapepe Public Library.
During the presentation, Blay will speak about the composition of Hawai‘i’s reefs and will have sample specimens including coral, coralline algae, and beach sediments.
Blay is the co-author of “Kaua‘i’s Geologic History: A Simplified Guide.”
The Hawaiian Marine Environment series is sponsored by the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library.
