Nawiliwili Duke’s on Kaua‘i was the creator of La Piña. The bartenders were looking for something that would attract locals and tourists with a mix of pineapple and coconut that would taste well with or without alcohol — a drink for all ages.
Duke’s on Kaua‘i creates a third of their drinks; and the others are provided by Duke’s on other Hawaiian islands.
At one point, La Piña was so popular that Duke’s had a wall on its website featuring pictures of locals and tourists who drank La Piña and enjoyed it!
1 fresh pineapple
3 oz coconut creme
1 cup of ice
Start off with a fresh pineapple.
Snap off the extra green from the top.
Cut off the top of the pineapple.
Use a pineapple corer and cut out the inside of thepineapple.
Take a cup of ice, the coconut creme and the pineapple meat andblend them well.
Pour the blended juice into the pineapple.
Put the top back on the pineapple.
Cut a small slit on the top for the straw and serve!
If you wanted it to have alcohol you can add:
1 ounce Hana Bay Gold rum
1/2 ounce of dark rum float
Blend it with the rest of the recipe.
