LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Air 1 responded to two separate calls Saturday to make airlift rescues in remote areas on the north side of the island.
The first call came at 11:28 a.m., when 911 dispatch took a report of a woman with an ankle injury on the trail to Waipo‘o Falls in Koke‘e, a county news release states. KFD’s Rescue 3 and Engine 7 assisted in the response and the woman was airlifted to safety.
An ambulance transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Her current condition is unknown.
The second incident was called in to dispatch at 3:46 p.m., the release states. Three hikers had become lost on Powerline Trail but were able to relay their GPS coordinates to the rescue team. Air 1 located the hikers at approximately 5 p.m. The time of day made it necessary to airlift them to safety at a location near Loop Road in Wailua.
