LIHU‘E — The Hanapepe Colts came up one game short of a sweep and the Lihu‘e Patriots took two of its games over the weekend as the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League returned to Vidinha Stadium.
Kapa‘a Eagles’ Junior Midget quarterback Cade Halemanu uncorked a short one-yard pass to John Deblin in the third quarter to give the Eagles JM a 28-6 showing, Sunday.
But the JM Colts responded in the fourth period when Justin Fune found open ground on a 78-yard scoring run, the Colts gracing that TD with a successful boot for the 28-14 reading at the buzzer.
Earlier in the game, Kapena Texeira put the Eagles on the board first, finding paydirt on a two-yard run in the second quarter for the 6-0 lead.
The Eagles found their wings later, answering with an 80-yard breakout by Levi Otsuka-Levi to knot the game at 6-6 before Jayden Palenapa-Likelio gave flight to the Eagles on a 29-yard scoring run for the 14-6 go-ahead in the second period.
Coming back from the half, the Eagles upped the margin when Braxton Garma found the end zone on an 11-yard run before Halemanu lit up the airways.
Degan Davis scored back-to-back touchdowns, both three-yard rushes, in the second quarter to pull the Mitey Mite Colts from a 12-0 deficit, Makoa Vanaman gracing Davis’ second TD for the 13-12 go-ahead in the Colts’ 26-18 edge over the Kapa‘a Eagles, Saturday.
Keith Kanna plucked an Eagles airball and a 54-yard runback for touchdown gave the Colts a 20-12 halftime lead before Vanaman found the end zone on a 53-yard scamper in the third period.
Kahale Kaleiohi opened the scorebooks in the Eagles’ favor with a three-yard run in the opening quarter followed by Sam Odell finding paydirt after a 25-yard run in the second quarter for the early 12-0 lead.
Trevlen Keli‘inoi-Burdett capped the action by scoring the Eagles’ final touchdown, a 16-yard run, in the final period for the 26-18 Colts victory.
The Junior Pee Wee Colts, tied with the Eagles, got two touchdowns from Avery Miguel to gain advantage in the division with a 19-0 win, Sunday.
Jacob Delos Reyes opened up scorring in the first quarter with a 30-yard score, Noah Bermudez adding to that touchdown with a successful point-after run for the 7-0 lead which stood until Miguel found paydirt on an 89-yard scamper in the second quarter and iced the victory on a 29-yard run in the third period.
Lihu‘e Patriots Mitey Mites picked up its 19-0 win over the Kekaha Titans behind three touchdowns from Malu Ralston, the first coming on a six-yard run in the opening frame, Saturday.
He added a 23-yard and a 51-yard score in the third quarter, Doza Kaleiohi getting the point-after following Ralston’s 23-yard TD.
Lanakila Wilson, playing against a backdrop of a full slate of soccer games in the background, scored three touchdowns for the Lihu‘e Patriots Junior Midgets in its 34-6 showing over the Kekaha Titans, Sunday.
Wilson lit up the scoreboards on a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter for the 6-0 halftime score and added a 32-yard run in the third quarter. Aaron Renaud booted the point-after for the 14-0 lead entering the final period.
Wilson announced the Patriots with a 62-yard touchdown before Colby A‘ana-Todd got the Titans on the board with a two-yard charge to paydirt.
Zachary Hee answered for the Patriots with a two-yard score with Renaud booting the point-after for the 28-6.
Steven Yannarell capped the victory with a 33-yard breakout in the period where four scores were recorded.
