WAILUA — The hiker who died after collapsing atop Nounou Mountain in Wailua has been identified along with the likely cause of death.
William Rollin Curry, 59, of Lawa‘i, was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, a county news release states. He had been hiking along the Nounou Mountain trail.
Preliminary autopsy results are indicative of possible heart attack, according to the Kaua‘i Police Department.
Rescue 3 and Air 1 responded to the call and flew to the summit around 2 p.m. Rescuers performed CPR before providing air transport to medics waiting at the Wailua Houselots park.
Curry was transported to Wilcox Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
