LIHU‘E — Members of the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band offered shoppers some holiday cheer on Sunday during its “Singing for Tips” fundraiser at the Walmart and Safeway stores.
The event had the middle school students singing while manning fishnets to collect “tips” from shoppers to help with the group’s upcoming trip to the Heritage Music Festival in California, scheduled for next spring.
Under the direction of Mary Lardizabal, the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band will be hosting a free concert at 7 p.m., Dec. 7, at the Kapa‘a Middle School Covered Court.
A Scholastic Book Fair will be held from 4 to 6:45 p.m. and again following the concert.
Dinner will also be available from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. with tickets for the spaghetti plate going for $7 each. Take-out is available.
Recently, the musical group completed one of two successful McNight event at the McDonald’s Restaurant in the Waipouli Shopping Center.
Lardizabal said the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band students and their parent volunteers will take to the counters again on Dec. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. with 20 percent of all purchases at McDonald’s going to help defray the cost of the trip to the Heritage Music Festival.
