Charles Saiki
Charles Mitsuru Saiki of Wailua Houselots died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 11, 2011, at age 87. Born in Wailua on June 3, 1924, he was a member of the 442nd squadron and retired from the County of Kaua‘i as a supervisor with the Waste Water Division.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Saiki of Wailua Houselots; two sons, Clint (Sheila) Saiki and Alan (Missy) Saiki, both of Wailua Homesteads; four grandchildren; three brothers, Robert, Jimmy (May) and Clifton (Florence); one sister, Kay Terao; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Saiki family with arrangements.
Alec Blackstad
Alec Sonny “Papa” Blackstad of Lawa‘i, Kaua‘i passed away on Nov. 10, 2011 at the age of 93 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born in Waimea, Kaua‘i on Sept. 2, 1918, he was a telephone repair man with Hawai‘ian Tel.
He was preceded in death by baby granddaughter, Alisa Blackstad.
He is survived by wife, Agnes Blackstad; sons, Michael (Sharon) Blackstad; Ronald (Loretta) Blackstad; Payne “Leo” (Sybil) Blackstad; Gerald “Jack” (Amy) Blackstad; daughters, Alexa (Wayne) Samio; Aleta (Edwin Jr.) Fu; sisters, Florance “Tootsie” Kajiwara; Elaine “Lei” Kaukani; brothers, Robert Blackstad; Joseph (Mary) Blackstad; Stanley (Miki) Blackstad; grandchildren, Michele (Sean) Chong; Bill (Leo) Blackstad; Kevin (Adrianne) Blackstad; Kris Blackstad; Malia (Doug) Freitas; Kaleo (Val King) Caires; Brian (Enjo Rapozo-Hoskins) Perreira; Kyle (Wailana) Blackstad; Brydan (Jana) Blackstad; Byron (Ilima Matsusaka) Perreira; Chantel Blackstad, Toni-Ann Samio; Moku (Kahale) Blackstad; Tyron (Tasha Kamanuwai) Samio; Tessa (Jeffrey Silva) Samio and Kekai (Leinaala Ah Yo) Blackstad; 33 great grand children;10 hanai great grand children; 4 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel, Koloa. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m. Family requests flowers omitted

Leonard Medeiros
Leonard Wayne Medeiros of Kalaheo died at home on Nov. 17, 2011, at the age of 68. Born on March 22, 1943, on Kaua‘i, he worked as a carpenter with Matsunaga Construction, Kaua‘i Builders and retired from the County of Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John Medeiros Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Marcelina “Marcie” Medeiros of Kalaheo; daughter, Kerri Medeiros of O‘ahu; son, Michael Medeiros of Kaua‘i; stepdaughters, Geri Green of O‘ahu, Sharon (Bruce) Martin of Oregon, Doreen Samante of the Big Island, Harmony Samante of O‘ahu; stepsons, Michael (Bernie) Samante of Ewa Beach, Dennis (Edwina) Samante of Ewa Beach, Lawrence Samante of Mililani; brother, John (Shirley) Medeiros Jr. of Omoa; sisters, Gwen (Lawrence) Carveiro of Kalaheo, Carol (Thomas) DePonte of Waipahu, Kathleen (George) Langtad of Hanama‘ulu; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Holy Cross Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.

Juliana Yago
Juliana G. Yago of Puhi passed away on Nov. 15, 2011 at Garden Isle Healthcare Center at the age of 71. Born on July 8, 1940 in the Philippines, she was a retired miller for The Garden Island newspaper.
She is survived by her husband, Rodolfo “Rudy” Yago; two daughters, Marilou (William) Combs and Marilyn (Manny) Garcia; hanai daughter, Sonia (Virgilio) Uy of Honolulu; sister, Clarita (Pancho) Tabuyo of Philippines; 4 grandchildren, Ethan, Jade, Allison and Lauren and numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.

Eric Fujiwara
Eric “Garfield” Fujiwara of Kalaheo died Nov. 16, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 54. Born on Sept. 7, 1957, in Honolulu, he was a mechanic technician with the Hawai‘i Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Fujiwara; son, Daniel Fujiwara of Hanapepe; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Hinazumi of Lihu‘e; two grandchildren, Mari and Micha Hinazumi; parents, George and Yaeko Fujiwara of Hilo; brothers, Duane (Phyllis) Fujiwara of Aiea and Myles (Yonghui) Fujiwara also of Aiea and sister, Lorene (Gerrit) Takasaki of Hakalau.
Friends may visit with the family at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Emery Nester
Dr. Emery Nester passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2011 after a brief illness. He was a long time resident of Kaua‘i and O‘ahu. Born on January 16, 1925 in New Plymouth, Idaho to Emory and Gladys Nester. He was the founder and author of Lifestyle Discipleship and author of a book on depression. He was also a practicing psychologist both in the private sector and for school districts in Kapa‘a and on O‘ahu.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Suzanne Ritchey and brother, Billy Nester.
He is survived by son, Tim (Carol) Nester of Kapa‘a; grandchildren, Timmy and Sara Nester of Kapa‘a and Kara and Royce Hammer of Reno, Nev.; sister, Betty (Bob) Gillikin of San Carlos, Calif.; brother, Bob (Peggy) Nestor of Greer, S.C.; son-in-law, Lloyd Ritchey of Reno, Nev. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held in Kapa‘a at Calvary Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m.
Catalina Antolin
Catalina S. Antolin of Kekaha passed away on Nov, 18, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 94. Born on March 8, 1917 in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband, Inocencio Antolin and daughter, Ederlina Abarques.
She is survived by four sons, Orlino (Esperanza) Antolin Sr.; Rene (Tessie) Antolin; Oscar (Nelita) Antolin and Cesar (Adoracion) Antolin; two daughters, Clemencia Calumag and Edna (Robert) Garvida; two sisters, Concepcion Pasion and Marina (Raymundo) Sagucio; brother, Andres (Andrea) Sagucio; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Friday, Dec. 2, at St. Paul’s Church in ‘Ele‘ele from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
