Kapa‘a alumni BJ Aiwohi was named the Western State Bowl defensive player of the game following the Allan Hancock Bulldogs’ 56-11 win over Los Angeles Harbor, Nov. 19.
The Bulldogs scored 14 points in the final quarter, including a 37-yard interception return from Aiwohi to put the game to bed.
Aiwohi, in his award, finished the game with a career-best six tackles, a sack and the interception.
“I’m not a bit surprised our defense played that well,” said Kris Dutra, Allan Hancock head coach. “I saw the light come on for them during the game against Cerritos. It was impressive what they did against them and I knew Harbor would be in trouble with the defense.”
With the win in the Western State Bowl, the Bulldogs finish the season with a 7-4 overall record.
Aiwohi had four tackles, one sack, four pass defenses and seven fumbles through the Oct. 23 game, states the Hancock website.
“We are so proud of BJ,” said Akala Aiwohi, BJ’s mother, in an email. “It’s always been his dream to play college football. We’re so excited to see him.”
BJ plans to be home for the holidays, returning to California in January.
