Joan M. Deguchi of Lihu‘e died on Dec. 17, 2011, at her home in Lihu‘e at the age of 70. She was born on Sept. 21, 1941, in Honolulu. She was a supervisor for Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Cherie (Toppy) Miyashiro, Michelle Deguchi and Renee Mahuka; two sons, Todd (April) Deguchi and Roby Deguchi; 17 grandchildren, Haunani and Kaimi Miyashiro, Joseph and Chantel Mahuka, Jeremy, Jordan and Shae Rocha, Shawna, Todd Jr. and Sierra Deguchi, Pono, Benjamin and Ruston Swain, Isaiah Deguchi, Roby Tanaka, Maile Deguchi and Mitsy Hayashi; great-grandchildren Kaelyn Mahuka, J.J. Deguchi, Akoni Villatora, Kaiea Lum, Makoa Lemke-Hayashi and Ayden Siharath; mother, Sumano Kunihiro; two sisters, Alice Higa and Amy Furukawa; two brothers, Kazu and James Kunihiro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on Sunday, Jan. 22, at Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center. Flowers omitted.

Myrtle Hine
Myrtle N.N. Cup Choy Hine died peacefully on Dec. 6, 2011, at her home in Wenatchee, Wash., at the age of 78. She was born on Feb. 8, 1933, in Makawao, Maui.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Hine of Washington; son, Brian (Linh) Lee of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Cheryl Lee (Kenneth) Kubota of Kapa‘a and Lenore “Lia” (Curtis) Lau of Kaneohe; step-daughter, Pamela (Lenny) Lamb; step-sons, Greg (Mary) Hine and Ronald (Bea) Hine, both of Washington State; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Cup Choy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Kailua Christian Church, 317 Manono St., Kailua, O‘ahu; with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Scattering of her ashes will take place at Anini Beach at a later date.
Mary Belliveau
Mary “Grace” Belliveau of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 19, 2011, at the age of 95. Born on Dec. 13, 1916, in Medford, Massachusetts, she was a retired secretary for Tewksbury School in Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Belliveau.
She is survived by sons Albert Belliveau Jr. of Kapa‘a, John Belliveau of Kapa‘a and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday, Dec. 29, at Saint Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Private inurnment will be at Punchbowl Veterans Cemetery, Honolulu at a later date. Arrangements by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Koloa.
Mary L. Kirby
Mary L. Kirby, age 79, of Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2011, at Alamo Nursing Home. Mary Louise (Corum) Kirby was born on Dec. 11, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Anderson) Corum. Mary Lou was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends. She was a registered nurse and received her training at Swedish Covenant hospital in Chicago. In 1955, she married Donald F. Kirby, who died in 2006. Mary and Don lived for many years in Hawai‘i, where she raised her family, worked as a nurse and loved island life. She came back to Michigan in the early 1980s and lived the remainder of her life in Kalamazoo. Mary was a faithful Christian and a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years.
She is survived by her three children, Michael (Pamela) Kirby, John (Sheroyl) Kirby of Three Rivers, and Jennifer (Eric) Rickstad of Kalamazoo; brother William (Shirley) Corum of Coconut Creek, Fla.; grandchildren Mark and Kayla Kirby, Faith and Caleb Kirby, and Maggie Rickstad; and by her two grandchildren by marriage, Emmy Burton and Sara Polk.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park on Thursday, Dec. 29. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethel Baptist church in Kalamazoo.
