Regina O. Ventura
Regina O. Ventura of Kapa‘a died on Dec. 10, 2011, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 89. She was born on July 22, 1922, in Kapahi. She worked for the Hawaiian Fruit Packers Cannery, and after the cannery closed she became a cook for the B.V.M. sisters at St. Catherine’s Convent. She was a retired State of Hawaii employee at Samuel Mahelona Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mariana Ornellas; sister, Mabel (Clarence) Ebinger; brothers, Albert, Joaquin, John, Joseph and Patrick Ornellas; her beloved husband, Jules Ventura Jr. and her cherished sons, Wayne Maurice, Gregory Jules and Jules John Ventura.
She is survived by her daughters, Paulette Ann Vierra, Kitty Catherine (Vernon) Basuel and Regina Eva Ventura; grandchildren, Veronica Nagahisa; Lenette Vierra; Vernon Basuel II; Brookelynn Basuel; Antony (A.J.) Basuel; Kawika Ventura; Cameron Ventura; Clayton Ventura; Lisa Bowsman; Blaise Ventura; Teresa Surdi and 31 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-laws, Irene (Wayne) Ventura and Linda (Gregory) Ventura; sisters, Mary Ornellas; Theresa (Jacob) Martins; Pauline (John) Fernandes; sister, Catherine Ornellas B.V.M.; Julia “Julie” (Stanley) Souza and Eva Ornellas.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. with mass to follow at 11a.m.
Robert Salvatore
Robert E. Salvatore died on Dec. 6, 2011, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 83. He was born on June 20, 1928, in Queens, New York. He was an Air Conditioning Supervisor with Dyna Electron at PMRF.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Margaret Salvatore, two sons, Robert and Thomas Anthony Salvatore; brother, Arthur Salvatore and sister-in-law, Emily Viquelia.
He is survived by his wife, Maxima Salvatore of Lihue; son Rory Salvatore of Lihu‘e; hanai son James Mcgihon of Waimea; goddaughter Julie Ann Rivel of Waimea; two sisters, Collette Schick and Cecilia Salvatore, both of Washington; three brothers-in-law, Gabriel (Betty ) Bernaldes of California, John ( Leilani) Bernaldes of Waimea and Fred Viquelia of Kaumakani, four sisters-in-law, Mary (Tex) Wilson of Nevada and Frances (Fausto) Gragasin of Waimea; Alice Canales of Kekaha, and Jean Stenson of Alabama; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Jan. 7 at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion with visitation at 9:30 a.m. Services to begin at 11 a.m. Interment to follow. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Morito Sato
Morito “George” Sato of ‘Ele‘ele died on Dec. 22, 2011, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 95. Born on May 5, 1916, in Waimea, he retired as a Meter Reader with Kaua‘i Electric.
He is survived by his son, Clifton (Joyce) Sato of Kalaheo; daughters, Arlene Sato of Honolulu and Sandra Sato of Hilo; grandchildren, Elysse Sato of Monmouth, Oregon and Jordan “Morito” Sato of Ashland, Oregon; brother-in-law, Takeshi Hirano of Orange, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Garden Island Mortuary. Service at 4 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Noriaki Fujimori. Casual attire is suggested.

Marlene Helela
Marlene “Winkie” Helela of Wailua Homesteads died on Dec. 25, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 76. She was born on Dec. 8, 1935, in Honolulu. She was the middle child of Elizabeth and Charles Bernard (deceased). She was a truly devoted wife, loving mother and an abiding friend.
She was preceded in death by an older sister, Ramona, and younger brother, Charles Jr. She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, David of Wailua; her children, Keith of Omao, Kauai; Kimberly of San Antonio, Texas, and Steven (Malia) of Honolulu; grandsons Kristopher Kele Antonio; Noa Hanaloa Helela; Waiea Imiolahooilohookui Helela; Kaiehu Mohalamauliolahalawai Helela; granddaughter Ilana Maluehoe Helela and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services in Honolulu to celebrate her life will be held at Borthwick Mortuary on Maunakea Street Thursday, Jan. 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The inurnment of her ashes will be made at a private family gathering at Punchbowl Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. (Family members are advised to check in at the office for directions to the site).
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Helela family with arrangements.
