LIHU‘E — Thirteen sex offenders living on Kaua‘i have been charged with felony non-compliance in 5th Circuit Court.
The convicted sex offenders were identified, investigated and apprehended for non-compliance with failing to register and related offenses with statutory requirements including annual in-person registration.
The arrests came over the past three months in a joint operation between the Kaua‘i Police Department and Office of the County Prosecuting Attorney.
“Our sex offender registry laws are designed to help law enforcement stay informed of the whereabouts of dangerous sexual predators in our community.” said Prosecuting Attorney Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho in a press release on Friday. “When these offenders defy the law by failing to comply with these safeguards, we make it one of our highest priorities to hold them accountable.”
Jayson Michael Toki, 39, of Lihu‘e was charged with 44 counts. He remains in custody awaiting trial on June 4 with bail set at $44,000.
Gary K. Kawamura, 63, of Anahola, was charged with 27 counts. Bail is set at $27,000, and arraignment is scheduled March 5.
Edward Kalaulahauole Nakaula, 54, of Kapa‘a, was charged with 25 counts. Bail is set at $25,000, and he remains in custody awaiting trial on July 9.
Robert Dewayne Willis, 36, no home listed, was charged with 11 counts. He posted $11,000 bail, and the trial is set for June 25.
Wyatt Godinez, 26, of Kapa‘a, was charged with eight counts. He posted $8,000 bail, and arraignment is scheduled today.
Jack Mikio Nishimoto, 57, of Lihu‘e, was charged with five counts. Bail is set at $5,000, and arraignment is scheduled today.
Stanley Harry Gonsalves, 69, of Kapa‘a, was charged with four counts. He posted $4,000 bail, and arraignment is scheduled today.
George Ornellas, 50, of Kapa‘a, was charged with three counts. He posted $3,000 bail, and a trial is set for June 25.
Ernest Costabrum Jr., 68, of Hanama‘ulu, was charged with two counts. He posted $2,000 bail, and his arraignment is scheduled today.
Robbie John Fernandes, 59, of Kapa‘a, was charged with two counts. He posted $2,000 bail, and his arraignment was scheduled Wednesday.
Edward Altisiba Generalao, 43, of Kapa‘a, was charged with two counts. He posted $2,000 bail, and a trial was scheduled June 4.
Russell Tsukasa Yotsuda, 54, of Kapa‘a, was charged with two counts. He posted $2,000 bail, and an arraignment is set for today.
Lin Alii Akita, 53, of Kekaha, was charged with one count. Bail was posted in the amount of $1,000, and an arraignment was scheduled today.
