LIHU‘E —Plenty of soccer was played before the skies opened up on Saturday at North Vidinha Soccer Fields.
The Kaua‘i Soccer Association opened its spring league for about 50 teams in the under-8 through under-14 age divisions, with all games played Saturday.
Kevin Gusman, one of the KSA field officials, said Lanakila, one of the girls’ teams, had just returned from an O‘ahu tournament and was playing against Pohaku in an under-10 matchup.
The Westside Falcons under-8 group sported bright pink T-shirts.
“Right now, only the under-8s have the pink shirts, but eventually all of the Westside Falcons will be in pink,” a team parent said while cheering on the blueshirts against a tough match.
Jane Garma, one of the Kaua‘i Soccer Association leaders, said results from Saturday’s matches were not yet available.
Rains and lightning, which started after most of the games were played, affected Kaua‘i Soccer Association action on Sunday. Garden Island Football Club Coach Kevin Devit canceled Sunday practice due to flash flood warnings.
