Florencio Ballesteros
Florencio Ramos Ballesteros, 86, of Hanamaulu died on Feb. 15, 2012, at the Center for Aging at Tripler Army Medical Center. He was born on March 5, 1925, in Kahuku, O‘ahu. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War and he retired as a machine operator at the Hawai‘i Sugar Planters Association, where he also served as a union representative for the ILWU.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violita Ballesteros; children: Brenda Ballesteros-Miyashiro (Brian) of Honolulu, Wesley Ballesteros (Maria) of Honolulu, and Michael Ballesteros; grandchildren: Christopher Ballesteros of Cambridge, Mass., Mariana Ballesteros, Gabriel Ballesteros and McKena Miyashiro of Honolulu; siblings: Antonio Ballesteros, Larry Ballesteros, and Consorcia Melchor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfredo Ballesteros.
The wake will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with burial and military honors to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Nu‘uanu Memorial Park & Mortuary and Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Ralph Tamm
Ralph Tamm of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, died at home on Jan. 25, 2012, at the age of 88. He was born in 1923 and raised in Chicago. He was educated at New Mexico State University, was a naval aviator in World War II, and retired as a mechanical engineer after working in the aerospace industry for 39 years. He was a philosopher trying to understand and identify the real world.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Richard Hipsack of Kalaheo, Hawai‘i, Bradley Tamm of Waikiki, O‘ahu, and Charlene Tamm Barnes of Boonton, N.J., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life was held privately.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Tamm family with arrangements.
Liza Raposas
Liza Noelani Raposas of ‘Ele‘ele passed away on Jan. 12, 2012, at Carmel Mountain at the age of 33. She was born on Feb. 25, 1978, in Lihu‘e. She was a baker at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Alfred Peralta and Cirilo Raposas.
She is survived by son, Konner Lee Raposas-Nacnac; boyfriend, Lenito Nacnac; father, Edwin Raposas; mother, Aurora Raposas; sisters, Lanelle Hawthorne of San Diego; Dabilee Stasha (Michael) Terska of Colorado; nephews, Devin Hawthorne of San Diego and Mikko Terska of Colorado; niece, Dejah Hawthorne of San Diego; grandmothers, Dolores (Bebang) Peralta of Honolulu and Rosalina Raposas of Omao; grandfather, Juan Sagucio of Kaumakani ; aunties, Addie (Greg) Enriquez of Omao; Delphine Shea of Honolulu; Hannah Raposas of Kapa‘a; Merlita (Alan) Honma of Petersburg, Alaska; Helen and Wade Tasaka of Lihu‘e; Josephine Raposas of Juneau, Alaska; Adeline (Bruce) Walter of Juneau, Alaska; uncles, Jose (Norma) Peralta of San Diego; Oscar (Carrie) Sagucio of ‘Ele‘ele; Peter (Kelly) Peralta of Honolulu; Nelson Peralta of Sacramento; Jerry Raposas of Kalaheo; Lodring (Vivian) Raposas of Hanapepe; also Nenita and Lysander Nacnac of Koloa.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Kekaha Boat House. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and service will be held at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Lolita Bagaoisan
Lolita Ragus Bagaoisan of Kekaha passed away on Jan. 27, 2012, at the age of 76. She was born on Jan. 21, 1936, in Barangay #24 Nanguyudan, Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a suite attendant at the Embassy Poipu Pointe and retired in 1989.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loreto Bagaoisan Sr.; sons, Manuel and Sammy Bagaoisan; daughter, Marisa Bagaoisan; brother, Florendo Ragus and brother-in-law, Roxas Gallego.
She is survived by her children, Antonio (Gloria) Bagaoisan; Roderick (Deborah Bagaoisan and Loreto (Jeanna) Bagaoisan Jr.; siblings, Jesus Marcelino (Salud) Ragus; Virginia Gallego; Encarning (Rodolfo) Dela Cruz; Norma (Gregorio) Dumlao; Corazon (Felipe) Remigio; Luz (Calixto) Bagaoisan Jr. and sister-in-law, Gloria Ragus; grandchildren, Mark Bagaoisan; Glorianne (Jarren) Kaneakua; Crystal (Selwyn) Bagaoisan-Rita; Kamuela Numazawa; David Christian Bagaoisan and Nicholas Bagaoisan; great-grandchildren, Malisha and Mark Kepa Bagaoisan; Jayden, Javin and Jazen Kaneakua and Shylah and Cyani Bagaoisan-Rita.
Wake services will be held on Feb. 24 at Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha on Feb. 25 from 8 to 10 a.m. Burial will be held at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
