LIHU‘E — The Charter Review Commission scheduled a special meeting to discuss whether the County Charter needs clarification as to the mayor’s authority over commission-appointed department heads.
Following Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.’s decision in February to put Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry on leave, and the Police Commission’s vote to reinstate Perry, the Charter Review Commission on Feb. 27 was to discuss with the County Attorney in executive session whether clarification in the charter was required.
But that meeting was canceled due to lack of quorum and the commission met again March 19, when the same executive session was back on the agenda.
The public is invited to Monday’s special meeting to provide their perspective on the issue.
The meeting will be held at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, Mo‘ikeha Building, Room 2A/2B at 4 p.m.
