LIHU‘E — Island School and Kaua‘i High School split its series Wednesday during the make-up of matches that were rained out Saturday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons tennis courts.
The Kaua‘i High School girls took its division, 5-0 while Island School boys controlled two boys doubles matches to take a 3-2 edge over Kaua‘i.
Originally rescheduled to play at the Kaua‘i Community College tennis courts, the home court for the Voyagers, Wednesday’s games were moved to the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts after rains started coming down prior to the start of the matches.
Kaua‘i girls worked the impromptu home court advantage with Jennifer Grady taking the Girls First Singles over April Oo, 6-2, 6-2 while Shay Orial, playing on the Girls Second Singles court, defeated Island School’s Lauren Claypoole, 6-1, 6-1.
Shay’s sister Tarryn Orial teamed with Kari Noe on the Girls First Doubles court to defeat the Voyager duo of Kalena Wong and Sachi deTreaux, 6-4, 6-1 while on the Girls Second Doubles court, Kaua‘i’s Noe Murray teamed with Gilian Gregorio to down the Voyagers’ team of Katy Davidson and Madison Moore, 6-4, 6-0.
Kaua‘i’s Danika Thompson and Marieas Barsamila took their Girls Third Doubles match over Island School’s Ashley Larkin and Alison Culliney, 6-0, 6-2 to round out play on the girls’ courts.
Jerik Centeno took the Boys First Singles court for Kaua‘i, defeating Island School’s Ryan Perez, 6-4, 6-4 while Red Raider Rad Floria took down Garret Beyer of Island School 6-6 (8-6), 6-4 on the Boys Second Singles court.
Island School took all of the Boys Doubles matches, the duo of Dylan Morrison-Fogel and Ben Steuri defeating Kaua‘i’s Kevin Jain and Francish Joshua Perez, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 on the Boys First Doubles court.
Voyagers Keoni Boemer and Christian Potter got past Kaua‘i’s pair of Jacob Peck and William Jordan Balbin, 7-5, 6-0 on the Boys Second Doubles and in the Boys Third Doubles, Island School’s Cole Moore teamed with Bronson Greip to defeat Xinfa Lin and Reggie Mores, 6-4, 6-4.
Island School next travels to the Hanapepe tennis courts, Saturday to take on the Waimea High School teams while Kaua‘i hosts Kapa‘a at the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts.
Both matches start at 10 a.m., Saturday.
