The Kaua‘i County Housing Agency will celebrate its annual “Parade of Projects” at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lihu‘e Civic Center to celebrate Community Development Week.
This year marks the 38th year that the county has administered the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, and the 21st year for the HOME Investment Partnerships program, Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. states in a news release.
“We are pleased that these programs continue to provide us with the opportunity to collaborate with community groups on projects that benefit low- to moderate-income residents on Kaua‘i,” he says.
The two programs have funded low-interest homebuyer loan programs, public facility improvements, rehabilitation of houses and historical structures, and public services.
The County Housing Agency later this month will ask the County Council to approve $709,480 in federal CDBG funds and $2.6 million in federal HOME funds.
The CDBG and HOME programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and locally by the County Housing Agency.
On display at Thursday’s Parade of Projects will be projects from Alu Like Inc., Child and Family Services, the County Housing Agency, Easter Seals Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Community Reinvestment Corp., Hawaiian Community Assets, Hope, Help and Healing Kaua‘i, and Kanu I Ka Pono Inc.
Other agencies that will be represented at the event include Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity Inc., the Kaua‘i Fire Department; Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity, Kaua‘i Housing Development Corp., Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i, Office of Economic Development, West Kaua‘i Business Professional Association and Women In Need.
