Welcome to the beginning of the end!

Today is the premiere edition of our new Friday/Saturday Weekender edition, combining the best of both publications in one convenient edition that encompasses local News, Sports, Happy Camper, ‘Ohana page, Letters to the Editor, Real Estate, Island Album, daily weather, tide forecasts and more.

What’s new in print? The Weekender will have a new section inserted into the Friday edition that will continue to provide the daily crossword, sudoku, cartoons and astro-graph a day in advance. It will include a new extensive community calendar of the weekend’s activities, events and featured community stories to be enjoyed at your leisure. Pull it out for Saturday’s habitual coffee-time reading.

What’s new online? On Saturday, we will be premiering our first online

edition! For the first time, our online edition will have news not available in print. Our Saturday homepage will have a new design which will allow bigger and better photo coverage, while continuing to cover current local news and highlighting local sports to ensure readers will not miss the latest sports scores from the Friday night games. Readers will also be able to view and enjoy more of Dennis Fujimoto’s popular Kaua‘i Captured photos.

I assure you that The Garden Island will continue to provide Kaua‘i with local news and local sports seven days a week. We are only changing how you receive news on Saturday.

The TGI staff and I are excited to be a part of the newspaper’s evolution of using multiple social media platforms to deliver daily Kaua‘i community news. We proudly represent Kaua‘i as “your community newspaper.”
