WAIMEA — The Waimea High School baseball team earned the No. 1 seed for the Wally Yonamine Foundation Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II Baseball State Championships, which opens Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Field in Waipahu, O‘ahu and Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa campus.
Under the leadership of Coach Michael Rita, the Menehune, securing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title with a playoff win over Kaua‘i High School, open their bid for the state title in the quarterfinals Wednesday against Waialua at Hans L’Orange Field at 4 p.m.

Waipahu High School earns the No. 2 seed in Division II and will open against unseeded Konawaena at 7 p.m. while Seabury, seeded No. 3, opens against Maryknoll at 1 p.m.
Kamehameha Schools-Big Island gets the No. 4 seed and opens against the Kalaheo Mustangs starting at 10 a.m.
Top seed in Division I is Kailua with the Mid-Pacific Owls getting the No. 2 seed. Waiakea of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation gets the No. 3 seed with the Baldwin Bears of the Maui Interscholastic League getting the No. 4 seed.
Division I play opens Tuesday at the Les Murakami Stadium with games featuring Punahou, Hilo, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Kaiser, Pearl City, Maui, Moanalua and Castle.
Championship games will play Friday with the Division II title game starting at 4 p.m. followed by the Division I championship starting at 7 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
