The Kaua‘i Visitor Aloha Society of Kaua‘i has three publications that visitors should make a point of finding at their hotels, the airport or at the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau office at 4334 Rice Street in Lihu‘e.
The Tips For A Safe Vacation brochure offers general information to better prevent theft or other crimes. It also offers valuable safety information regarding the unique water safety hazards that vary among the many island beaches.
The brochure is about to undergo an updated printing. They can also be found through concierges.
One card you hopefully won’t see is the one a Kaua‘i Police Officer hands you as the victim of a theft, assault or other crime. It will have the police report number, the officer’s name and badge number, and contact information with regard to replacing identification cards and medications or canceling credit cards.
The cards help put the victims in touch with the first-call-for-help. From there, they can be referred to people who can help them deal with their emergency. Dispatchers Gail Stevens and Sherrie Orr take the calls, and KPD helps distribute the cards, said Sue Kanoho, KVB’s executive director.
A victim should call the contact number, as KVB is prohibited from initiating contact. Find out more by calling 482-0111 or visit www.kauaidiscovery.com.
