NAWILIWILI — The Disney Cruise Lines’ “Wonder” received its traditional welcome when it visited Nawiliwili Harbor for the first time.
Kumu hula Maka Herrod and na wahine of Na Hui O Kamakaokalani were rubbing sleep out of their eyes, amazed the 11-deck cruise liner was already half-way into the Nawiliwili Bay when they arrived at the jetty wall area early Monday morning.
Nalani Brun of the county’s Office of Economic Development said the Kaua‘i call ends the ocean liner’s tour of the Hawaiian Islands which started on the Big Island, moving up the chain to Maui and O‘ahu before visiting Kaua‘i.
Following its stop at Nawiliwili, a one-day tour, the cruise ship heads to Mexico to end its special 15-day cruise which started in California.
Disney’s “Wonder” features 11 decks, a total length of 964 feet, a maximum width of 106 feet and a gross tonnage of 83,000 with a capacity to comfortably accommodate 2,700 passengers along with 950 cast and crew members, states the Disney Cruise website.
