LIHU‘E — Three Civil Air Patrol cadets were promoted to Airman First Class and eight cadets, including the three promoted cadets, earned their Certificates of First Flight Tuesday night during the Civil Air Patrol meeting at the T-Hangers where the CAP planes are hangered at the Lihu‘e Airport.
“This proves that if you want to be a pilot, it’s possible,” said CAP Lt. Col. Ron Victorino, the CAP Kaua‘i Composite Squadron commander. “This is your first flight and with more effort, you can all become pilots.”
Three of the CAP cadets — Alexandria Croydon, Kainalu Gandia and John Quinlan — in addition to getting their certificates, were also promoted to Airman First Class, and got their new rank pins and ribbons pinned on by the CAP leaders.
The CAP cadets earning their Certificates of First Flight participated in the glider program at the Dillingham Air Field on O‘ahu, where they learned about the gliders and actually had a hand in flying the gliders.
CAP is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force and is a 501(c) (3) nonproft organization, supporting America’s communities with emergency and disaster services.
On Kaua‘i, Lt. Col. Victorino said the Kaua‘i Composite Squadron has three aircraft hangered at the Lihu‘e Airport and assists the Kaua‘i Civil Defense with shoreline tsunami warnings and other emergency services.
The Kaua‘i Composite Squadron consists of both a Senior and a Cadet program.
