LIHU‘E — A Kapa‘a man charged with 19 gun-related offenses following a four-hour standoff at his home was declared fit for trial Thursday in 5th Circuit Court.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano concurred with reports from three medical examiners who interviewed Kevin K. Christian, and said the 41 year-old defendant was fit to proceed to trial. He set a trial date for July 30.
Christian is charged with attempted murder, firearms violations, two counts of terroristic threatening, two counts of criminal property damage and 13 counts of reckless endangerment.
The charges stem from the Jan. 5 standoff in Kapahi with police. Christian allegedly shot a rifle more than 20 times from his apartment, sending rounds into his landlord’s adjoining residence.
Deputy state public defender Christian Enright filed a motion on March 15.
County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Murphy represented the state. Neither attorney objected to the reports.
Christian is currently in custody at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center on $650,000 bail.
