HANAPEPE — It’s free. It’s Friday. And there is a Flying Spaghetti Monster at the end.
J.C. Crouch of the Kaua‘i Harley-Davidson in Puhi said all motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to join in the free ride to the Hanapepe Art Night with the ride-out starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.
“We’re hoping the weather cooperates,” Crouch said. “The last ride, our first free, would have been better, but it was raining all day, although it cleared up for the ride. We had about 20 riders show up for that event and we’re looking at a lot bigger ride this time because people have been calling.”
Riders are invited to show up at the Puhi dealership which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily for pupu and soft drinks (no alcohol) and start the exchange of “lies” before the ride-out.
Riders will meet at the Hanapepe Art Night which runs from 6 to 9 p.m. with Ed and Cynthia Justus of Talk Story Bookstore having a special treat for the bikers.
But the Hanapepe Art Night fun is not restricted to bikers as all shoppers can get nipped by the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
“I’m going to be baking cookies for them,” said Cynthia Justus on Tuesday. “I’m excited.”
Crouch said Ed Justus dropped off some fliers announcing a special in-store discount for the bikers who can enjoy the various eateries and coffee houses open for the event as well as the pockets of musicians and minstrels.
One of those include Chris Booth, a graduate of Waimea High School, who greeted the couple’s return from Europe with “a new bookshelf.”
“We told him we wanted a bookshelf when we came back and he surprised us with one, which spans the front of the building,” Cynthia said. “Tucked away among the volumes of books, some of which came from Chris’ head, is the FSM, inspired by Faith and Jeff Jefferies of California who ran the shop while we were in Europe.”
Cynthia said the Jefferies, in their 80s, come to help whenever she and Ed have to travel.
According to the Jefferies’ story, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is for anyone who is on the Internet, the task being to post it whenever it is encountered.
There are numerous postings and websites, including the FSM being on Facebook and YouTube, on the Google search engine with the venganza.org website being the lead.
