LIHU‘E — Several plein air artists — artists who paint outdoors, on site, capturing the fleeting light — will put their magic to work to raise funds to help with the conservation and preservation of the Grove Farm Museum in Lihu‘e and Wai‘oli Mission House Museum in Hanalei.
On June 9, 16 invited artists began the week-long affair with a group-painting session at Hanalei Beach. The artists now have a week to paint various scenes throughout the island, from Kekaha to Ha‘ena.
On the event’s last day, Saturday, the artists will be featuring a “quick draw,” followed by a reception and art sale of the work created during the week.
The gala reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grove Farm Museum in Lihu‘e, and art is not the only thing on the menu. There will be live Hawaiian music, refreshments — including beer and wine — and tours of the grounds and buildings of G.N. Wilcox’s sugar plantation home, the Grove Farm Museum.
The reception is also an opportunity for the public to purchase original works of art featuring Kaua‘i’s unmatched beauty. The proceeds from the sales and the $20 admission will be used toward the two museums.
