LIHU‘E — Thanks to Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union, a handful of Kaua‘i students will have some extra cash to help in the beginning of their college years.
Each year, KCFCU awards up to five $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning to enroll full time in an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning.
This year’s Your Choice Scholarship recipients are Adam Matthew Clark and Alison Yamamoto, from Kapa‘a High School, Angelica Tran and John Medeiros, from Waimea High School, and Lasie Ann Eto, from Island School.
On June 5, all five students were recognized and presented their scholarships at an awards ceremony at the Kukui Grove West office in Lihu‘e.
Clark will be attending Syracuse University in New York, Yamamoto will attend University of Hawai‘i at Manoa on O‘ahu, Tran will be at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles; Medeiros will be attending Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls and Eto will also be in Oregon attending Linfield College in McMinnville.
“Congratulations to a well-deserved group of student recipients” said Irving Soto, VP of Marketing at KCFCU. “You should be very proud of yourselves and what you’ve accomplished in high school. I’m sure your parents are just as proud. Continue to make them proud while you’re in college.”
To be eligible, students need to be a member of the credit union and are considered based on the following criteria: academic merit, community service, credit union relationship and financial need.
Soto also recognized the Scholarship Committee members Gerald Hill, Sandra Magnussen and Marlene Leary for their volunteerism and thanked them for spending countless hours of reviewing applications and making tough decisions.
