On June 15, the annual summer bon dance was presented by the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji Temple.
On location in Waimea, the summer festival was a joyous occasion filled with cultural dance and food.
A sea of happy faces from all over the island, as well as visitors from all over the world, crowded the Higashi Hongwanji Temple shoulder to shoulder.
Traditional dance, celebrating the ancestral spirits of family and friends, began at 7:30 p.m. Wonderful drumming accompanied this cultural display of heritage.
The festival also included an abundant array of Japanese foods: Andagi (sweet fried dough), grilled teri-beef and chicken skewers, musubi (rice balls wrapped in dried seaweed) and stir-fry noodles were on sale for everyone to enjoy.
