Hanapepe Bomb Squad, Team Central snare wins

KALAHEO —Tai Ofisa scored eight points and Lacin Montemayor added seven points to lead the Hanapepe Bomb Squaud to a 30-10 win over the Kamikaze, Thursday in the county’s Division 2, or boys in the fifth and sixth grade, youth basketball league at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.

Travis Duran, launching a three-ball in the third period, provided the sole score in the Kamikaze’s 3-17 deficit at the half.

Duran went on to notch another point in the second half, finishing with four points to lead the Kamikaze effort.

Kade Ofisa answered the Kamikaze trey in the fifth period, launching his own three-ball en route to his game-total five points.

Kaimani Tecson netted a game-high 10 points, including a trey in the fourth period, to lead Team Central to a 29-26 physical slugfest over Papalina in the nightcap.

Hunter Yoshioka added eight points in the victory.

Trey Taba, firing off a trey for Papalina, also in the fourth frame, was joined by Nick Herbig with five points each to lead the Papalina effort which saw two orange shirts hitting the bench after fouling out in the fifth and sixth frames, a testament to the physical matchup.

Ryan Banasihan, Caelen Nakato and Makana Tavita each netted four points to help Papalina.

There will be no games played Monday due to the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

The next games will hit the floor, Tuesday when the Division 1, or boys third and fourth grade, will see Westside meet the Supersonics in the 6 p.m. opener followed by Hanakila taking on Papalina at 7 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
