LIHU‘E — Although some of the techniques and aids are simple, the results are great, says Steve Kline, occupational therapist at the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Kline was joined by Jan Pascua in accepting a Kaua‘i County Council certificate recognizing April as Occupational Therapy Month.
Although April has past, the American Occupational Therapy Association encourages people to celebrate OT month all year.
Kline said May 12 to May 18 was also National Hospital Week, and because he works at KVMH, tied both events together.
Occupational therapists and certified occupational assistants provide specialized training for physical and psychiatric conditions, neonatal care, learning disabilities, and more.
“It’s not hard,” said Kline, who explained how equipment on hand helped those trying to overcome limitations. “It could be as simple as a specially modified pen.”
