Hats off to the Kauai Society of Artists on a great Washed Up Marine Debris Art Show that opened with an artists’ reception on Friday where the Healthgo people were busy working on their space that’s scheduled to open in a few weeks … artist Monika Mira did a fabulous job with the marine debris environment entrance to the exhibit that a marine debris ray welcomes everyone.

The opening was bittersweet as Abigail Borroughs announced her wedding to her high school sweetheart, and she’s moving to Tennessee … by the time you read this, she’ll be on her way … good luck and best wishes!
Kudos to Jean Souza and her Kauai Ocean Discovery ohana (she couldn’t make the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort event because she had to man the Kukui Grove shop on the actual World Oceans Day) … Steve Soltysik was kept busy by all those keiki hands (they even had protective gloves) creating keiki-sized versions of the Hokulea sailing canoes, and Kaeo Bradford changed things up by creating feather hair picks among the displays of seabirds.
Over at the undersea arena, George Evanoff figured out how to move the mermaid from her undersea environment to a chair so the mermaid could get out of the tail … one of the mermaids was tied up with the Pride parade where a bunch of mermaids graced the Kuleana Construction/Na Pali Sea Queen float that made an unscheduled stop at the Kauai Beer Company (Larry Feinstein was still walking down the street) to replenish supplies.
Great job to the organizers of the parade that attracted hundreds of people to Rice Street and the lawn of the historic County Building … Edwin Vea discovered the Kauai Bus stop on Rice Street a perfect parade viewing site, and where was the aloha spirit from those visitors who wanted to cross Rice Street to eat Hamura’s Saimin …they could’ve offered a treat to those Kauai Police Department traffic monitors.
Hats off to the visitor industry who had participation from the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, and the Marriott Kauai Beach Club. And, of course, even Target was in the thick of the excitement with their balloon flowers.
