LIHUE — A number of road-related projects are on tap in the days ahead with grass cutting, tree trimming and guardrail repair making up the bulk of the work, the Hawaii Department of Transportation said in an update on Friday.
In observance of Kamehameha Day on Wednesday, there will be no Kuhio Highway Southbound contraflow and no daytime lane closure unless otherwise permitted.

The following is a list of projects scheduled for the upcoming week. All work is weather permitting.
Kipu
Roving lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 2.9 to 8.7 in the vicinity of Kipu Road and Omao Road, nightly to Friday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping.
Koloa
Right lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 6.6 to 8.7, in the vicinity of Maluhia Road and Piwai Reservoir on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for cutting grass.
Eleele
Right lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 14 to 16, in the vicinity of Melemele Road on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for guardrail clearing and cutting grass.
Kaumakani
Right lane closure on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction between mile post 19 to 22, in the vicinity of Kaumakani Avenue and Paulaula (formerly Fort Elizabeth), on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass.
Lihue
Right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) in the northbound direction, between mile post 4 to 4.5, in the vicinity of Wailua Golf Course on Tuesday and Thursday, from 1 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., for cutting grass.
Kapaa
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 8 to 9.5, in the vicinity of Akia Road to Kealia lookout, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for resurfacing, concrete and electrical work.
Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Kealia
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 10 to 10.5, in the vicinity of Mailihuna Road and Kamole Road on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for cleaning of the concrete swale.
Moloaa
Roving right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction between mile post 17 to 19, in the vicinity of Kapuna Road on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass.
Kilauea
All lanes on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) remain open, however the county road, Kolo Road that intersects with Kuhio Highway is closed at the intersection. The intersection will be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through the first week in July 2025. To access Kilauea town, traffic is being routed to Hookui Road and Pili Road. Princeville
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 0.3 to 1.2, between Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for pipe and gutter installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Hanalei
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) in the westbound direction between mile post 2.7 to 3.3, between the Hanalei Post Office and Anae Road on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for concrete work. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Waikoko
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 4.3 to 4.5, in the vicinity of Waikoko Bridge and Lumahai Trailhead, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for slope stabilization of Waikoko Hillside. Wainiha
Single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 6.5 to 7, between Ananalu Road and Powerhouse Road on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge maintenance.
Kokee
Single lane closure on Waimea Canyon Drive (Route 550) possible in either direction between mile post 11.5 to 14, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for shoulder stabilization, grassing, guardrail, and striping. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
Wailua Homesteads
Right lane closure on Kuamoo Road (Route 580) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 2, in the vicinity of Cane Road, on Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass.
