WAIMEA – Kauai Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Waimea on Thursday, June 5.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Alawai Road in Waimea on Thursday shortly after 6:15 p.m.
Personnel with the Waimea, Kalaheo, and Lihue fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival at approximately 6:20 p.m., firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from the residence. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $397,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
