Gregory Bruce Williams
Gregory Bruce Williams passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 30, 2025, at the age of 73, after a hard battle with cancer. He lived a life of service to his family, friends, church and the community. He will be remembered for his warmth, wit, humility, and enduring faith.
Greg was born in 1951 to Roy Bruce Williams Jr. and Anna Colleen Williams, in Oceanside, California. He attended Carlsbad High School then Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he studied Agricultural Engineering. Upon graduation, he moved to Kauai to work at McBryde Sugar, where he worked until its closure in 1996. Greg eventually transitioned to coffee and worked as the Orchard Manager at Kauai Coffee until he retired in 2016.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Cecilia, son Bruce (Kara), daughter Lianne (David), sister Phyllis (Bruce), sister Laura (Brian), and the children he loved so dearly, Maverick, Ruthie, Davey, and baby boy Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 322 Mehana Road, Ele‘ele. Visitation with family will begin at 9 a.m. A casual “pau harvest” gathering will be held at 2 p.m. that afternoon at 5451 Wailaau Road, Koloa. All are welcome. Aloha or casual attire recommended.
In lieu of monetary gifts or flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s honor to St. John’s Episcopal Church or Cal Poly BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department.
Laurinda Leiaulani ‘Gma Lei’ Werner Cano
Laurinda Leiaulani “Gma Lei” Werner Cano, passed away at KVMH on April 11, 2025. She was born on June 15, 1943, in Nanakuli, Oahu. She was a retired custodian at Waimea Canyon School.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Palani Cano Jr., parents Mary Mahuka-Werner and Edward Brown, grandson Dwayne Rita, siblings Calvin “Nunu” Werner, Ewalani Combs, James Kimo Werner and Barney Boy Werner.
Gma Lei is survived by her six children Francine “Mz Fran” Oligo, Frank “Bully” (Judy) Cano, Franchot “Hawaiian” (Pamai) Cano, Francisco “Mauna” (Pomai) Cano, Francella “Napua” (Lloyd) Rita, Francford Kinonui “Bradda” (Jamie) Cano, 14 grandchildren Kaliko (Jessa) Oligo, Noelani (Riley) Refamonte, Thomas (Kayla) Clementino, Jade Cano, Savannah Cano, Amanda Rita, Bradley (Brennan) Cano, Samuel (Bri) Cano, Quinlan Cano, Xavier Cano, Saige Cano, Kinohi Cano, Keahi Cano, seven great-grandchildren Hunter Furtado-Oligo, StarrLee Furtado-Oligo, Kaleah Oligo, Hadley Oligo, Evelyn Clementino, Rio Keao Cano, Kaius Kaimana Cano, siblings Leonae Keala Rodrigues, Charles Papoko Mahuka and John Mahuka.

Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 8833 Kaumualii Hwy, Kekaha HI 96752. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with service to follow from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Aloha attire is suggested. Flowers omitted.
The entire Cano ohana would like to give a special thanks to KVMH, the nursing staff, home care workers, Kauai Care Center and close special friends for all their dedication and support during this journey with Gma Lei. David Maki
A gentle soul, David Maki of Kekaha, Kauai, went over the rainbow on April 16, 2025. He lived a fulfilling life. 81 years on Earth, he was a beloved grandson, son, brother, uncle. David was a strong swimmer, surfer, lifeguard, veteran, fireman, world traveler, paddler, beekeeper, nurturer of nature, animal lover and rescuer, a loyal friend and so much more.
David is truly missed but will never be forgotten. His memories live on when we see the glistening waves rolling in, the soothing Waimea river flowing, the healthy trees that he planted and nourished with “Mokihana’s Magic Manure,” the animals that he loved and found peace with.
A hui hou David, until we meet again.

He is survived by his mother Edna, brother Russell (Francine), sisters Laura Lynn (Norman) Chong, Rozzie Maki (Steward Reeves), Anne (Craig) Roberts, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 5 p.m. at Kekaha Neighborhood Center, 8130 Elepaio Road.
Richard Poncio Bayot
Richard Poncio Bayot, of Kekaha, passed away on May 15, 2025, at Straub Benioff Hospital on Oahu at the age of 65. He was born on Nov. 22, 1959, in Waimea. He was a retired electronic technician at Pacific Missile Range Facility.
He was preceded in death by his father Poncio Bayot, brother Eugene Keo Bayot, paternal grandparents Feliciano and Eugenia Bayot and maternal grandparents Vidal and Takeyo Badua.
He is survived by his wife Elsie Malabe Bayot, mother Edna Badua Bayot, sister Edee Nichols (Kim), sons Darrick Bayot (Sheryl), Rilen Bayot (Shy), stepsons Norman T. Vea Jr. (Macey Parongao), Aaron Kai Vea (Christine), stepdaughter Nikki Corona (Cy), grandchildren Elijah and Jaelah Bayot, Duke and Riley Bayot, Kaimalie and Nanea Parongao Vea, Asher Vea, Mateo and Dax Corona, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 8640 Kiowea Road in Kekaha. Visitation with the family from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by the celebration of life. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
Nu’uanu Memorial Park and Mortuary and Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Nina Lorrie Tasaka
Nina Lorrie Tasaka, 63, of Kapaa, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Lihue. She was born on July 28, 1961, in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her father Vernon Tasaka and mother Florence Tasaka.
She is survived by her daughter Karlina Tasaka, sisters Sheri (Das) Baker, Donna (Wayne) Moore, hanai sisters Penny Fernandes, Julie (Darryl) Chong, grandchildren Kaylin Espada-Tasaka, Kaleomana Tasaka, Roselynn Rapozo, Christoper Rapozo, Micah Rapozo, great- grandchild Rose Tasaka, numerous nieces, nephews, Tasaka cousins, friends, and hanai family.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Kapaa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Visitation with the family will start at 1:30 p.m. followed by services at 2 p.m.
The family suggests casual or aloha attire and kindly requests that flowers be omitted.
