Kudos to the many who made time on a beautiful Monday to attend the Kauai Veterans Council Memorial Day Observance at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery, where Sgt. Major Keith Castaneda said the Waimea High School JROTC Color and Saber Units were making their second appearance in the high school graduations on Friday night.

Kalea Carvalho created the wreaths that were presented, and he had enough extra flowers to create pieces for the podium area, too. Mahalo to Vianne Tabata, the Kauai Scouting of America Executive, for having such a large turnout that helped save the day by setting up the American flags and lei in time for the service, and Mahalo to Marissa Dennis of the Girls Scouts of Hawaii, whose scouts had enough lei to present one to all of the veterans attending the traditional ceremony.
Kudos to Mary Lardizabal of the Kapaa Middle School Ukulele Band (they’re scheduled for a performance at noon on Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center), who managed to have the band kids arrive on time at the Kauai Museum while also ensuring the Scouts of America completed the Good Turn Project of placing Scout-made floral tributes at gravesites.
