LIHUE — The Public Works Solid Waste Division announced that the Lihue Refuse Transfer Station has lifted waste disposal restrictions on construction and demolition debris and trailer loads, which went into place last September.
LIHUE — The Public Works Solid Waste Division announced that the Lihue Refuse Transfer Station has lifted waste disposal restrictions on construction and demolition debris and trailer loads, which went into place last September.
“Mahalo to our community and businesses for your patience and understanding,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. “I also want to thank our Solid Waste team for stepping up and working hard to make this happen. Thanks to their efforts and some key positions being filled, services are more efficient and better serve our residents and customers.”
Effective immediately, the following materials will be accepted for disposal at Lihue RTS:
• Construction and demolition (C&D) debris will be accepted when cut to 3-foot lengths. Examples: dry wall, wood waste, tile, roofing material, fiberglass shower stalls and tubs, plumbing pipes and carpet rolls.
• Trailer loads will be accepted. The size limit for trailers is 5-foot by 10-foot, 2-foot or equivalent.
The following services will continue:
• Pallets cut into quarters will be accepted;
• Loose mixed waste and bulky items from residents; and
• Small commercial vehicles, 3/4 ton truck capacity and lower, will be accepted with tip fee coupons purchased at the DMV.
