KOKEE — A brush fire that was reported at around 6 a.m., Wednesday, is still burning on Wednesday afternoon near the junction of Kokee Road and Waimea Canyon Drive.
KOKEE — A brush fire that was reported at around 6 a.m., Wednesday, is still burning on Wednesday afternoon near the junction of Kokee Road and Waimea Canyon Drive.
As of 3 p.m., the county reported there are no threats to structures nor any injuries have been reported.
Following the call on Wednesday morning, Kauai Fire Department (KFD) firefighters and equipment responded to the blaze that had estimated to have scorched two acres. Since then, KFD have turned over the incident to the state officials, and continue to assist the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife crews.
KFD assets tackling the incident include crews with the Hanapepe and Waimea fire stations being joined by Rescue 3, Tender 1, Air 1, Air 2, the Department of Public Works, state officials, and the on-duty Battalion Chief.
The Kauai Emergency Management Agency also monitored the fire.
Waimea Canyon Drive from Panini Place to Kokee Road junction remains closed until further notice, officials said. Additionally, Kokee Road near Mile Marker 7 is closed to traffic.
The public is strongly advised to avoid the area as fire crews remain on scene.
