Kudos to Leah Aiwohi (she was the Kauai finalist for 2025 Teacher of the Year) and the 15 other finalists for hosting the “Spark Collaboration” Community Fair that partnered with other community groups like the Endangered Forest Birds, Birds Not Mosquitoes (she flew in from Oahu), Friends of the Wildlife Refuges, and Kumu’s Cupboard.

Bryan Silver of Kalani High School — he is the 2025 Hawaii Teacher of the Year! — brought along his students-built toothbrush robot (it actually runs for about four hours on a battery) to go along with Ian Cablay of Waialua High School’s Chinese lions that demonstrate the depth of Performing Arts.
Coach Kara Kitamura (Leah said she was the 2024 Teacher of the Year finalist) was recruited to emcee the event where one of the teachers from the Philippines earned one of the early prizes for having his school ID readily available, and mahalo to Coach Tommy John Cox (he’s the principal at Kapaa High School) for the help with getting information for sports programs where we don’t have access to official scorekeepers.
Sympathies and aloha to Christina Martinay and the Kauai High School agriculture program who had the last of their fresh farm eggs available during the Pau Hana Market. According to Laurie Ho of the Kauai County Farm Bureau, several people (they’re on the school’s security cams) broke into the shop at school, and during the incident, the dogs belonging to the intruders destroyed the farm’s chickens … now who’s going to provide the eggs for the Raider Cafe’s Egg Bites?
